Chatbot lead generation: qualify and capture leads 24/7
How a lead generation chatbot qualifies visitors with a guided flow, saves leads, verifies contacts, hands hot prospects to your team and books meetings.
On this page
A lead generation chatbot turns website visits into sales conversations. It greets the visitor, asks a few qualification questions, saves the answers as a lead, and sends serious prospects to a person or a calendar, at any hour. The best ones do this with a short guided flow rather than an open-ended AI chat, because qualification is a structured job.
This guide covers what to ask, how to capture and verify leads in Chyt.ai, and how to connect the chatbot to the rest of your sales process.
What is a lead generation chatbot?
A lead generation chatbot is a chatbot that identifies potential customers, collects the details your sales team needs, and routes each enquiry to the right next step. A lead qualification bot is the same idea with more emphasis on the questions: it separates visitors who are ready for a conversation from those who are still browsing.
In Chyt.ai, a lead generation chatbot usually combines three parts: a deterministic flow that asks the questions, AI answers grounded in your content for anything unscripted, and a handoff or booking step for prospects who are ready to talk.
Why use a chatbot instead of a contact form?
A form asks for everything up front and gives nothing back. A chatbot can ask one question at a time, adapt to the answers, and respond immediately.
- It works outside office hours. Enquiries that arrive at night or at the weekend still get a useful first response.
- It qualifies while it captures. Branching questions mean a student researching a topic and a buyer with a deadline follow different paths.
- It answers questions in the same place. A visitor who is unsure about fit can ask before deciding whether to share details.
- It gives sales better context. The team sees what was asked and answered, not just a name and a message box.
Which qualification questions should a chatbot ask?
Ask only what changes your next step. In Chyt.ai, the Save lead action can record name, company, job title, service interest, team size, timeframe and project goal, which maps neatly to a classic qualification conversation.
| Question | What it tells you | Input type |
|---|---|---|
| What can we help with? | Service interest, and which branch to follow | Buttons |
| What are you trying to achieve? | Project goal, in the visitor's own words | Free text |
| How large is your team? | Rough deal size and fit | Buttons |
| When do you want to start? | Timeframe and urgency | Buttons |
| What is your name and company? | Who to follow up with | Free text |
| What is your role? | Whether you are speaking to a decision-maker | Free text or buttons |
Three to five questions is enough for most businesses. Buttons keep answers clean and make branching reliable; free text suits names and goals. Use condition nodes to route on the answers, for example sending short timeframes to a person and everyone else to a closing message with useful links.
How do you capture leads with Save lead in Chyt?
Build the questions as a conversation flow, then add an Action node set to Save lead in Chyt after them. The step-by-step guide to building a flow-based chatbot covers the builder itself. For lead capture specifically:
- Ask before you save. Put an explicit choice such as "May we save these details so our team can follow up?" before the action, and route "No" to a polite ending.
- Store each answer in a variable. The action maps the captured answers into the lead. Blank or skipped answers are simply omitted.
- Test the route. The flow tester previews the capture without creating a lead, so run one real conversation after activation to confirm the lead appears.
- Close clearly. Tell the visitor what happens next, and only promise a follow-up your team will deliver.
Because the whole sequence is deterministic, it uses no AI credits. Every active Chyt.ai plan includes unlimited deterministic flow conversations, so a busy qualification flow does not eat into your AI allowance.
One detail to know: a pure flow conversation has no AI-generated lead score, because no model is involved. The lead is still created by the Save lead action. An absent score is not a sign of low interest.
How do verified contacts work?
An email address typed into a chat may be mistyped or made up. Chyt.ai's visitor verification adds a check. Where verification is active for a chatbot, a visitor who continues past the first few messages is asked for their name, email and consent, then confirms a one-time code sent to the contact method they chose. Email verification asks only for an email address; WhatsApp or SMS verification appears only when it is offered as available.
Verified contacts are listed separately from leads, each with a badge showing which method was verified. Treat the badge for what it is: proof that the visitor had access to that inbox or number at the time. It is not proof of legal identity, and consent to verification is not a marketing opt-in. Owners and admins can export or erase a contact's details, and contact records expire after 90 days. The help guide on visitor verification and message safeguards explains the settings.
How do you work leads in the dashboard?
Open Leads to see sales profiles from conversations across your chatbots. You can search by name, company or email, filter by chatbot and stage, and open a lead to see its profile, qualification details and linked conversations.
Read the source conversation before acting on a signal. Company and profile details are self-reported or inferred, so the transcript is the best context. Then set the stage that reflects your team's real assessment, so the list stays a working pipeline rather than an archive.
When should the chatbot hand off to a human?
Hand off when a prospect is ready, stuck or valuable. In a flow, connect the relevant route, such as "I'd like to speak to someone", to a Handoff node. In AI conversations, visitors can ask for a person, and you can choose to escalate automatically when answer confidence is low.
On plans that include the live agent inbox, the conversation appears for your team to claim, reply to and resolve. Write honest escalation and offline messages: a handoff request is not a promise of an instant reply, so tell visitors when your team will realistically respond.
Can the chatbot send leads to HubSpot or Google Sheets?
Chyt.ai's integration catalogue includes HubSpot, Google Sheets, Slack, Zapier and others. You connect the service, install its functions, and enable function calling, after which the AI assistant can call those tools during a conversation.
Two points keep expectations accurate. First, a lead appearing in Chyt.ai does not by itself create a CRM record; the integration has to be connected, installed and tested. Second, function calling is an AI feature, so it uses AI credits and runs in AI conversations rather than inside pure flow steps. Always confirm the result in the destination system, not just in the chat.
Can the chatbot book a meeting?
Yes. When Meeting Bookings is enabled for a chatbot, the AI assistant can check availability and book a slot using your working hours, meeting length, buffer, notice period and timezone, with optional Google Calendar sync once that integration is connected. Booking tools run on the AI path, so a qualification flow should route ready prospects to a RAG node where booking is available. Our guide to AI appointment booking chatbots goes deeper.
A lead generation flow that works
- Welcome message that states the value and the time required.
- "What can we help with?" as buttons, branching by service.
- Two or three qualification questions: goal, team size, timeframe.
- Name, company and role.
- Consent choice, then Save lead in Chyt.
- A condition on timeframe: urgent prospects go to booking or a Handoff node; others get a helpful closing message.
- A "I have another question" route to a RAG node for AI answers from your content.

Frequently asked questions
- What is a lead generation chatbot?
- A lead generation chatbot is a chatbot that identifies potential customers on your website or messaging channels, asks qualification questions, saves the answers as a lead, and routes the enquiry to sales, a booking or a follow-up. In Chyt.ai it typically combines a deterministic qualification flow, AI answers grounded in your content, and human handoff.
- How does a chatbot qualify leads?
- A chatbot qualifies leads by asking a short sequence of questions, such as service interest, goal, team size and timeframe, and branching on the answers. In Chyt.ai these questions run as a conversation flow with buttons and conditions, and a Save lead in Chyt action records the answers as a lead in the dashboard after the visitor agrees.
- Does lead capture use AI credits in Chyt.ai?
- Not when it runs as a flow. In Chyt.ai, messages handled entirely by flow nodes, including the Save lead in Chyt action, use no AI credits, and every active plan includes unlimited deterministic flow conversations. AI credits are used only if the conversation moves to an AI step such as a RAG node, function calling or an AI booking.
- How does Chyt.ai verify a lead's contact details?
- Chyt.ai can ask visitors to verify a contact method with a one-time code, usually by email, with WhatsApp or SMS offered when available. Verified contacts show a badge for the method that was verified. The badge proves access to that email address or number at the time of verification; it does not prove legal identity or give marketing permission.
- Can a Chyt.ai chatbot send leads to a CRM?
- Chyt.ai offers pre-built integrations including HubSpot, Google Sheets, Slack and Zapier, plus custom webhook functions. Once an integration is connected and its functions are installed, the AI assistant can call them during a conversation. A lead saved in Chyt.ai does not automatically create a CRM record, so test the integration and confirm results in the destination system.
- Can a chatbot hand a hot lead to a salesperson?
- Yes. In Chyt.ai a flow can route a prospect to a Handoff node, and visitors in AI conversations can ask for a person. On plans that include the live agent inbox, your team can claim the conversation, reply and resolve it. Set accurate escalation and offline messages so visitors know when to expect a response.
